This creamy mashed potatoes recipe is quick, easy, and perfect for any meal. With simple ingredients and a foolproof method, you’ll have a velvety, buttery side dish that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Freshly chopped chives, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
  2. Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot. Let them sit for a minute to steam off excess moisture.
  4. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  5. Gradually add softened butter and warm heavy cream to the mashed potatoes. Stir with a wooden spoon until well combined and creamy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Fold in minced garlic if desired.
  7. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish, garnish with chopped chives, and serve warm.
