These crispy air fryer chicken wings are coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, perfect for game day or quick weeknight dinners. They deliver a crunchy skin with a sticky, flavorful glaze without the mess of deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or neutral oil
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove moisture.
  2. Toss wings in a large bowl with baking powder and salt until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4. Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding; cook in batches if needed.
  5. Air fry wings at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. While wings cook, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, oil, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes to make the sauce.
  7. Transfer cooked wings immediately to the bowl with honey garlic sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  8. Serve wings hot with optional celery sticks and ranch or blue cheese dip.

Notes

Pat wings dry thoroughly before coating with baking powder to ensure crispiness. Do not use baking soda. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. Toss wings in sauce after cooking to keep skin crispy. For extra sticky wings, return sauced wings to air fryer at 375°F for 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the air fryer to maintain crispiness.
