Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube (13.8 oz / 390 g) refrigerated pizza dough (Trader Joe’s or Pillsbury works great)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 100 g)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (about 50 g)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme blend)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • For the Easy Marinara Dip:
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a 12×8 inch (30×20 cm) rectangle. Let rest 5 minutes if it resists.
  4. Brush the dough evenly with the garlic butter mixture.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the dough.
  6. Slice the dough into 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide sticks using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  7. Transfer sticks to the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are golden and cheese is bubbly and browned. Tent with foil if cheese browns too quickly.
  9. While baking, heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  10. Add minced garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
  11. Add crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Simmer gently for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  12. Remove bread sticks from oven, let cool 1-2 minutes, sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired.
  13. Serve warm with marinara dip on the side.

Notes

If cheese browns too quickly, tent bread sticks loosely with foil. Slice dough before baking to keep edges crisp. Use fresh garlic for best flavor; garlic powder can be a backup with increased amount. Let dough rest if it resists rolling. Avoid overcrowding baking sheet for even crisping. Reheat leftovers in oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to maintain crispness.
