These bite-sized appetizer cups feature crispy bacon, buttery caramel, and sweet maple syrup layered over flaky crackers. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or family gatherings, they’re a sweet and salty treat that’s easy to make and guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 saltine crackers (or sturdy gluten-free crackers)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked and chopped
  • Optional: dash of cayenne or black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and arrange bacon slices. Bake until crispy, about 18-22 minutes, flipping halfway. Drain and chop.
  2. Lightly grease a 24-cup mini muffin pan with nonstick spray or butter. Place one cracker in each cup, pressing gently to fit.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add brown sugar and maple syrup, stirring constantly until smooth and bubbling (2-3 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of hot caramel over each cracker in the muffin pan, covering the surface.
  5. Sprinkle chopped bacon evenly over each cup. Add cayenne or black pepper if desired. Top with nuts if using.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until caramel is bubbling and edges are golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Use a small offset spatula or butter knife to gently loosen each bite.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Use thick-cut bacon for best texture. Work quickly with caramel as it sets fast. For gluten-free, use sturdy GF crackers. For nut-free, omit nuts or use seeds. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in oven for best texture.
