A quick and easy salmon bagel bowl recipe combining smoky salmon, creamy cheese spread, fresh veggies, and a zingy dressing, perfect for brunch or leftover hacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large bagels, sliced and toasted (plain or everything bagels)
  • 4 oz smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped (or 1 tsp dried dill)
  • 1 small cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp capers, drained
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (extra virgin)
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional garnishes: fresh chives or parsley, everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  1. Toast the bagels: Slice bagels in half and toast until golden brown and crispy (3-4 minutes in a toaster or 5-7 minutes under a broiler).
  2. Prepare the creamy spread: In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, lemon zest, and chopped dill. Mix until smooth and fluffy (1-2 minutes).
  3. Assemble the base: Spread a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture on each toasted bagel half.
  4. Layer the salmon: Arrange smoked salmon slices evenly over the cream cheese. Tear into smaller pieces if thick.
  5. Prep the fresh toppings: Dice cucumber and finely chop red onion. Soak onion in cold water for 5 minutes if milder flavor is desired, then drain. Scatter cucumber, onion, capers, and cherry tomatoes (if using) over the salmon.
  6. Mix and drizzle the dressing: Whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Drizzle over the entire bowl.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle fresh chives or parsley and everything bagel seasoning if desired. Serve immediately while bagel is warm and crisp.

Notes

Toast bagels well to create a sturdy base and prevent sogginess. Use softened cream cheese for smooth spreading. Soak red onion in cold water to reduce sharpness if desired. Store cream cheese mixture and toppings separately from bagels if prepping ahead. Re-toast bagels before assembling leftovers.
