Golden, flaky puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dogs with cute little eyes, perfect for a quick and fun Halloween snack that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular or beef hot dogs
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for decorating the eyes)
  • Black olives or edible candy eyes (optional)
  • Optional: cheese slices (thinly sliced)
  • Optional: garlic powder or dried herbs
  • Optional: dairy-free puff pastry for dairy-free version

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Thaw the puff pastry if frozen, about 30-40 minutes until pliable but cool.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each puff pastry sheet gently and slice into thin strips about 1/2 inch wide.
  4. Wrap each hot dog with the pastry strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy wrappings. Overlap loosely.
  5. Beat the egg and brush each wrapped hot dog with egg wash for a golden finish.
  6. Add two small dots of mustard or ketchup as eyes, or use black olive slices or edible candy eyes.
  7. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Transfer to a cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until slicing and wrapping to prevent tearing. Use egg wash liberally for a golden crust. Check baking after 12 minutes to avoid burning. Can be baked in an air fryer at 375°F for about 12 minutes for a crisper result. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
