  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together pumpkin puree, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice until smooth and well combined. Set the filling aside.
  3. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets until they’re about 1/8-inch thick, maintaining their rectangular shape.
  4. Spread an even layer of the pumpkin filling on one of the rolled-out pastry sheets, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
  5. Place the second sheet of rolled-out puff pastry on top of the first, gently pressing it down to seal the edges.
  6. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the layered pastry into strips about 1-inch wide.
  7. Twist each strip gently but firmly, holding both ends and rotating in opposite directions to create a spiral shape. Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  8. Brush the tops of the twists with the beaten egg to ensure a golden finish. If desired, sprinkle with a bit of granulated sugar for added sweetness and crunch.
  9. Bake the twists in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until they’re puffed and golden brown. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes to avoid overbaking.
  10. Let the twists cool for 5–10 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack.
