A sweet, smoky, and spicy BBQ sauce featuring fresh peaches and bourbon, perfect for summer grilling and crowd-pleasing meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe fresh peaches, peeled and diced (or frozen peaches, thawed and drained)
  • 1/3 cup bourbon (80 ml)
  • 1 cup ketchup (240 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar (50 g)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice 3 medium fresh peaches into small chunks (about 1/2-inch pieces). If using frozen peaches, thaw and drain excess liquid.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup ketchup, 1/3 cup bourbon, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons honey. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, salt, and black pepper to taste. Mix well.
  4. Toss the diced peaches into the pan and stir to coat them in the sauce.
  5. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens and peaches soften.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. For a smooth sauce, blend with an immersion blender or regular blender; otherwise, leave chunky.
  7. Let the sauce cool before transferring to a clean jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

Use ripe but firm peaches for best texture. Simmer gently to avoid burning sugars. Adjust cayenne pepper gradually for desired heat. Sauce can be blended smooth or left chunky. Store in airtight container in fridge up to two weeks. Flavors improve after resting a day. For gluten-free, substitute Worcestershire sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. For a smokier flavor, add chipotle powder or liquid smoke. Slow cooker adaptation possible but may require reduction afterward.
