A smoky, spicy hot dog recipe featuring bacon-wrapped hot dogs topped with fresh jalapeños, perfect for quick cookouts and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Hot dogs (beef, pork, or plant-based)
  • Thick-cut bacon strips
  • Fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced
  • Hot dog buns (soft but sturdy, brioche optional)
  • Shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese (optional)
  • Mustard, ketchup, mayo, or spicy aioli (optional condiments)
  • Olive oil or cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the jalapeños, then slice them thinly. Remove seeds if less heat is desired. Prepare hot dog buns by slicing open if not pre-sliced.
  2. Wrap one strip of bacon tightly around each hot dog, spiraling from one end to the other. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  3. Preheat grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook bacon-wrapped hot dogs, turning every 3-4 minutes, until bacon is crispy and hot dogs reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C), about 12-15 minutes. Cover skillet briefly if needed to cook through faster, watching to avoid burning bacon.
  4. Lightly butter buns and toast on grill or skillet until golden and slightly crisp, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Place cooked bacon-wrapped hot dog in toasted bun. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top if using, then add sliced jalapeños. Add mustard, ketchup, or preferred condiments.
  6. Serve immediately while hot to enjoy crispy bacon and fresh jalapeño heat.

Notes

Wrap bacon tightly for best crispiness and juicy hot dogs. Cook on medium heat to avoid burning bacon before hot dogs are cooked through. Use tongs to turn hot dogs gently to retain juices. Toast buns last minute to prevent sogginess. Fresh jalapeños provide best flavor and heat; remove seeds to reduce spiciness. Leftovers keep up to 3 days refrigerated; reheat in skillet to maintain crispiness.
