This easy slow cooker recipe combines smoky, sweet, and tangy flavors in little smokies sausages, perfect for casual parties and quick entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds (900g) fully cooked little smokies sausages
  • 1 cup (240ml) BBQ sauce (smoky, slightly sweet variety recommended)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine BBQ sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir well until sugar dissolves and mixture is blended (about 5 minutes).
  2. Pour 2 pounds of little smokies sausages into the slow cooker. No need to thaw if frozen.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the sausages and gently stir to coat.
  4. Set slow cooker to low and cover. Cook for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
  5. After 3 hours, test a sausage for temperature and flavor. For thicker sauce, remove lid and cook on high for an additional 15 minutes.
  6. Serve warm directly from the slow cooker or transfer to a serving dish.

Notes

If sauce is too thin, mix a small amount of cornstarch with cold water and stir in during the last 30 minutes to thicken. You can prep the sauce and sausages the night before and refrigerate in the slow cooker insert; add an extra hour to cooking time if cold. Stirring halfway through cooking helps even flavor but is not mandatory. Use quality BBQ sauce for best flavor. Frozen little smokies can be used directly without thawing.
