Fresh Caprese Salad Recipe for the Perfect Summer Meal

fresh Caprese salad - featured image

A vibrant and refreshing Italian salad featuring ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze—perfect for summer meals.

Ingredients

  • Ripe tomatoes (heirloom or Roma varieties), sliced into thick rounds
  • Fresh mozzarella balls or buffalo mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves, torn
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash tomatoes thoroughly under cold running water and slice them into even rounds, about ½-inch thick. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
  2. Slice mozzarella into similar thickness as the tomatoes. If using mozzarella balls, slice them in half or leave them whole for a rustic look.
  3. On a serving platter, alternate layers of tomato slices, mozzarella, and basil leaves. Arrange creatively in a circular pattern or line them up.
  4. Drizzle olive oil evenly over the arranged salad using a spoon or small pouring container.
  5. Drizzle balsamic glaze lightly over the top. If making your own glaze, simmer ½ cup of balsamic vinegar on low heat until it reduces to a thick syrup, then let it cool before drizzling.
  6. Sprinkle flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over the salad. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve immediately to enjoy the vibrant flavors at their peak.

Notes

[‘Pick ripe tomatoes for the best flavor.’, ‘Use fresh mozzarella for a creamy texture.’, ‘Layer ingredients strategically for balanced flavors in every bite.’, ‘A light drizzle of balsamic glaze is sufficient; too much can overpower the dish.’, ‘Serve immediately for peak freshness.’]
