A quick and elegant appetizer combining juicy melon, silky prosciutto, and a tangy-sweet honey balsamic drizzle, perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ripe cantaloupe or honeydew melon, cut into bite-sized cubes or balls
  • Thinly sliced prosciutto, torn or cut into 2 to 3 inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons honey (preferably raw or local)
  • 1 tablespoon aged balsamic vinegar
  • Fresh basil or mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Wooden cocktail skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Rinse the melon and slice it in half. Using a melon baller or knife, cut into bite-sized cubes or balls about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. Remove seeds if needed.
  2. Tear or cut the prosciutto slices into pieces roughly 2 to 3 inches long, enough to wrap around each melon piece comfortably.
  3. Take a wooden skewer or toothpick, spear a melon piece, then wrap a slice of prosciutto around it. Optionally, add a fresh basil or mint leaf between the melon and prosciutto. Arrange skewers on a serving platter.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of aged balsamic vinegar until smooth and glossy. Adjust sweetness or tang to taste.
  5. Lightly drizzle the honey balsamic glaze over the skewers just before serving.

Notes

Assemble skewers as close to serving time as possible to keep melon fresh and prosciutto silky. The honey balsamic drizzle can be made up to a day ahead and stored in the fridge. For vegan adaptation, substitute prosciutto with smoked tofu and honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
