A quick and easy refreshing summer drink combining sweet watermelon, fresh mint, lime juice, and sugar, perfect for hot days and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (about 600g or 21 oz) ripe watermelon, cubed and seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup (60ml or 2 fl oz) freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2 medium limes)
  • 1/4 cup (50g or 3.5 tbsp) granulated sugar (adjust to taste; can substitute honey or agave)
  • 3 cups (720ml or 24 fl oz) cold water
  • 12 fresh mint leaves, washed and gently bruised
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Thin lime slices or small watermelon wedges (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (600g) of ripe watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes and 12 bruised mint leaves in a blender. Pulse gently a few times, then blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  3. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large pitcher. Press the pulp lightly with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible. Discard solids or save for other uses.
  4. Stir in 1/4 cup (60ml) freshly squeezed lime juice and 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar until the sugar dissolves completely, about 2 minutes. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Pour in 3 cups (720ml) of cold water and stir gently to combine.
  6. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 1 hour before serving.
  7. Serve chilled over ice cubes if desired, garnished with lime slices or mint sprigs.

Notes

Gently bruise mint leaves to release aroma without bitterness. Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. Chill for at least 1 hour for full refreshment. Adjust sugar to taste depending on watermelon sweetness. Optional sparkling water can be used for a fizzy twist. Avoid over-blending mint to prevent bitterness.
