A flavor-packed side dish featuring caramelized green beans, crispy bacon, and a sweet-savory glaze. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and washed
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium optional)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim the ends of the green beans. Pat them dry.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the bacon until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the bacon and place it on paper towels to drain excess grease. Once cooled, chop into small pieces. Reserve 1-2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet.
  3. Add the green beans to the skillet with the reserved bacon grease. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re tender but still slightly crisp.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add red pepper flakes if desired. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sugar dissolves and the glaze thickens slightly.
  5. Pour the glaze over the sautéed green beans and toss well to coat. Add the chopped bacon and stir to combine. Let the beans cook for another 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld together.
  6. Remove from heat and transfer the green beans to a serving dish. Sprinkle a little extra bacon on top for garnish. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Don’t overcrowd the skillet to ensure even cooking.’, ‘Use fresh green beans for better texture and flavor.’, ‘Adjust the sweetness by reducing brown sugar or adding more soy sauce.’, ‘Double the recipe for larger gatherings.’, ‘If the glaze is too thick, add a splash of water to loosen it.’]
