These easy homemade dog treats combine real pumpkin, natural peanut butter, and cozy spices for a wholesome, festive snack your pup will love. Soft, chewy, and packed with fall flavor, they’re perfect for spoiling your furry friend on crisp autumn days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (unsweetened, unsalted, no xylitol)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
  • 24 tablespoons water (as needed for dough consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine pumpkin purée, peanut butter, and egg. Stir until smooth.
  3. Add whole wheat flour, cinnamon, and ginger (if using). Stir until a shaggy dough forms. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time if dough is crumbly.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes until smooth and pliable.
  5. Roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Cut shapes using cookie cutters or a knife. Place treats on prepared baking sheet about 1/2 inch apart.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are set. For crunchier treats, bake up to 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and transfer to a wire rack. Let cool completely.
  9. Store cooled treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days, refrigerate for 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Use only pure pumpkin purée, not pumpkin pie filling. Always check peanut butter for xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. For gluten-free treats, use oat flour. For egg-free, substitute 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce. For crunchier treats, bake longer or finish in a dehydrator. Store in an airtight container; freeze for longer shelf life. Treats are people-safe but not sweet. Adjust baking time for softer or crunchier texture.
