A refreshing and slightly spicy watermelon mint agua fresca with no added sugar, perfect for hot summer days. This drink combines the natural sweetness of watermelon with cooling mint and a gentle jalapeño kick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups seedless watermelon chunks (about 600 grams or 1.3 lbs)
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves packed (about 10 grams)
  • 1 small jalapeño pepper, sliced (seeds removed for less heat or kept for more kick)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 30 ml)
  • 2 cups cold water (480 ml)
  • Ice cubes as needed for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut the watermelon into chunks, removing seeds if not using seedless. Measure about 4 cups (600 grams) of chunks.
  2. In a blender, add watermelon chunks, fresh mint leaves, and sliced jalapeño. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until very smooth and pulpy.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag into a large bowl or pitcher to remove pulp. Press with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of freshly squeezed lime juice and 2 cups (480 ml) of cold water. Taste and adjust lime or water for preferred tartness and dilution.
  5. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to chill and allow flavors to meld.
  6. Serve poured over ice cubes in tall glasses. Garnish with a mint sprig and a thin jalapeño slice if desired.

Notes

Adjust jalapeño seeds to control spice level. Straining is optional but recommended for a smooth texture. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. Add more water or ice to mellow spice or more jalapeño/lime juice to brighten flavor. Store refrigerated up to 48 hours; flavor deepens over time.
